The story of this painting starts at home, back when my studio was in my dining room—because really, who uses a dining room these days? The canvas began as something out of the 1980s, drenched in pastel hues, its entire presence giving retro lobby. I couldn’t let it stay that way.
When I moved my studio to Hopewell’s Highland Design Farm, a well-known community of artists, I let the canvas sit, waiting for the right inspiration. That moment arrived during the first annual Holiday Open House—an event I had envisioned at the request of the farm’s founder, who wanted to create more ways for people to engage with the arts community beyond Tour Des Arts. The day was cloudy, attendance was underwhelming, but the initiative and effort stuck.
This painting holds all of that—memories, movement, and momentum—layered into its very existence.
